Excerpt of Bone Wires by Michael Shean!

Excerpt:

The scene of the crime was an alleyway behind an abandoned Roziara Deli. Crowding the street outside the deli were a pair of patrol cars, white wedges of steel with ribbon lights that stained the nearby buildings red and blue. Street officers clustered around the mouth, black body armor over blue uniform fatigues; unlike the sidearms that Gray and Carter carried, the streeties carried the blunt, brutal shapes of submachine guns close to their plated chests. A cordon had been set up; the narrow yellow band of holographic tape that stretched across the alley mouth glowed as it cycled through baleful warning messages.
“They used to have good subs here,” said Carter as they pulled up in front of the moldering delicatessen. “Slabs of capicola as thick as Annie Cruz’s ass. Just incredible.”
“Don’t know that name,” said Gray.
“Porn star,” said Carter, who produced his badge and flashed it at a streeter who was approaching them. “Way before your time. Put on your war face, here comes the Pacifier.”
Carter’s Amber Shield glowed like the very words of God Almighty in the low light. “Carter and Gray,” said Carter, keeping his identification held up so that the streeter could see it. “Homicide Solutions.”
“Lem Martin,” replied the streeter. “Pacification Officer, patrol region 927.”
“This is your beat then,” said Gray, who produced from the inside pocket of his suit coat a slim Sony microcomp and engaged its holographic display. Data from the Nexus sprang to life above the palm-sized slab. “What do you have for us, Martin?”
Martin winced a bit at the lack of ‘Officer’ before his surname – you got a lot of that with Pacification Services, of which street patrol was the biggest group. They didn’t like being talked down to. Gray outranked him, however, and didn’t give a shit besides. “Nasty stuff,” Martin said, jerking his head toward the alley mouth. “Victim’s name is Anderson, Ronald P.. Administration. His panic implant was set off about an hour ago and flatlined soon after; me and my partner were in the area, and when we found him…well. Real horror show back there, is all I can say. I called for backup. Dunno what they used, but…well. You’ll see.”
Carter and Gray looked at each other – streeters saw all sorts of things. If they said it was a nasty scene, they’d probably do well to get smocks and rain boots. “All right, Officer,” Carter said, at which Martin seemed to relax a bit. “Were there any witnesses, security footage, anything like that?”
“Nothing we could find,” said Martin. “This area’s been abandoned for years. Anyone who lives here cleared out as soon as they heard us coming. You know how it is.”
“Yeah,” said Gray. Don’t want to get arrested for just being around. “All right, thanks, Officer. If you and…”
“Conklin and Peavey,” Martin replied. “In the other car. Patel’s with me.”
“…Right,” Carter replied with a nod. “If you fellas can keep up the cordon on either side of the alley, we’ll have a look. Call the coroner while you’re at it.”
“On it,” barked Martin, who stepped away from the alley mouth while touching the side of his throat where a subvocal mic, standard issue for street patrol, had been implanted. Carter waited until Martin had backed up a few steps and was well into conversation before he gestured for Gray to follow him. The two men passed through the holographic cordon, the barrier no more solid than the air around it, and took a few steps into the feebly-lit alleyway. The space behind the deli was dark and thick with shadows, lit only by the dying bulb of a lamp set over the shop’s sealed back door. A figure slumped or lay in the cone of dim light that spilled across the building’s crumbling facade. The air was faintly tinged with the smell of ozone and cooked meat. The two men approached; Gray held his computer in one hand while Carter fished the flat, card-sized shape of a palm lamp from a coat pocket. Cupping the lamp in his hand, Carter threw a beam of bright blue- white light across the alleyway and clearly illuminated the corpse.
Lean and muscular in life, that which had been Ronald Anderson half-crouched, half-sprawled across the alleyway, his handsome face pointing down toward the filthy concrete. The corpse’s posture reminded Gray of an old girlfriend; she was a yoga fanatic and used to do something similar called the Child’s Pose. Anderson’s formerly clean white dress shirt had been cut open, straight down the back from collar to waist, and his belted slacks had also been cut down to the base of the pelvis. His back had been tattooed with a medieval Japanese wave scene.
Anderson’s flesh had been laid open. Arching upward and away in a v-shaped furrow, a deep channel now butterflied the man’s back half from the base of his skull to the top of his pelvis. Where his spine should have been there was only a bloodless, grayish-red channel. The red and ivory of cleanly clipped bone and cooked organs were clearly visible in its absence, his heart a gray and veined lump. It was as if the tattooed sea had somehow come alive, restless and roaring, and attempted to rise away from its host who could never have survived its rebellion.
Without the slightest drop of blood, Ronald Anderson had been boned like a fish.
“Damn,” muttered Carter, stepping forward so he could track with his light the awful wound. “Never seen that before. What do you make of it, Dan?” For Gray, who had only experienced the more pedestrian horrors of stranglings, stabbings and gunshot wounds in his brief career, there was no clean reply. “That’s the strangest thing I’ve ever seen,” he breathed instead, staring down at the carved gutter. Gray had said ‘strangest’ – however, what he had truly wanted to say was ‘most horrible’. Looking down at the murdered man, Gray knew that his ‘sexy’ case had arrived, just as he had wished for it, but the only thing he could wish for now was to be anywhere else.
As if sensing the truth behind Gray’s words, Carter snorted softly. “Lucky you, kid,” he replied in a wry and vaguely weary tone. “Lucky you.”

Book Description:

In the wasteland of commercial culture that is future America, police are operated not by government but by private companies.

In Seattle, that role is filled by Civil Protection, and Daniel Gray is a detective in Homicide Solutions. What used to be considered an important - even glamorous - department for public police is very different for the corporate species, and Gray finds himself stuck in a dead end job. That is, until the Spine Thief arrives.

When a serial killer begins harvesting the spinal tissue of corporate employees all over the city, Detective Gray finds himself plunged into the first truly major case of his career. Caught in a dangerous mix of murder, betrayal and conflicting corporate interest, Gray will find himself not only matching wits with a diabolical murderer but grapple with his growing doubt toward his employers in the dawning months of the American tricentennial.

A thrilling mystery set in the same world as the Wonderland Cycle, Bone Wires is a grim trip into the streets of the empty future.

Michael Shean was born amongst the sleepy hills and coal mines of southern West Virginia in 1978. Taught to read by his parents at a very early age, he has had a great love of the written word since the very beginning of his life. Growing up, he was often plagued with feelings of isolation and loneliness; he began writing off and on to help deflect this, though these themes are often explored in his work as a consequence. At the age of 16, Michael began to experience a chain of vivid nightmares that has continued to this day; it is from these aberrant dreams that he draws inspiration.

In 2001 Michael left West Virginia to pursue a career in the tech industry, and he settled in the Washington, DC area as a web designer and graphic artist. As a result his writing was put aside and not revisited until five years later. In 2006 he met his current fiancee, who urged him to pick up his writing once more. Several years of work and experimentation yielded the core of what would become his first novel, Shadow of a Dead Star (2011). Michael is currently signed with Curiosity Quills Press, who has overtaken publication of Shadow of a Dead Star and the other books of his Wonderland Cycle.

I live in a small town in the South and am surrounded by the best friends a girl could ask for, as well as a family who supports my writing habit without hesitation.
When I’m not sitting at my laptop desperately trying to shush the voices in my head, I usually have my nose stuck in a book or have loud music playing while I create a fun new recipe in the kitchen. No matter what I’m doing, I’m usually flanked by my Boxer, who I absolutely adore. I’ve been writing since I was a young girl. My beloved stepmother, who always said I was a hopeless romantic, introduced me to romance novels when I was in my early teens. I remember that first book, which I still read once a year, and I think every man I have ever met has been measured, in some form or fashion, with the hero from that story.
That’s the power of a good romance. It turns us on, makes us laugh, makes us cry…it feeds our soul.
Oh, how the times have changed from those early swashbucklers! Nowadays, bookstores are full with an abundance of alpha males and the women who can stand toe-to-toe with them and take them down. And I love every gun-toting sword-wielding sports playing DNA altered vampire shape-shifting demon on the shelf.
I’ll admit I’m a huge book junkie. At my house, deciding what I’m going to read next is a little like shopping at the bookstore! So many to choose from, and I just keep buying them.
Some of my favorite authors, in no particular order, are Lora Leigh, Lorelei James, Larissa Ione, Maya Banks, Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, and Sherrilyn Kenyon . . . just to name a few!

Interview & Giveaway with Christine Warner author of Two Timing the Boss!

Please help me welcome author Christine Warner to Reading with Holly to talk about her book Two Timing the Boss! :) Don't miss the excerpt and giveaway below!

Holly: Hi Christine! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Christine Warner: Definitely! But first let me thank you for having me on your awesome blog today!

Let’s see… I live in Michigan along with my husband. Two of our 3 kids live at home and we share our space with 2 golden retrievers and 2 very spoiled cats. I love to cook, read, laugh, watch movies and spend time with my family and friends.

Other than that I am slightly addicted to social media, chocolate and coffee. I enjoy meeting and talking with other authors and readers and pretty much anyone in general!

Holly: When did you realize that you would like to write and publish a book?

Christine Warner: When I was in elementary school I won an essay contest and then a young author’s award for a book I wrote that was bound and displayed in our school library. From those 2 experiences I was bitten by the writing bug. I dabbled in it off and on for years, but really nothing serious. Growing up and life got in the way but it was always at the back of my mind.

My sister knew about my dream of writing and about 3 years ago gave me a gentle nudge, then a forceful shove.  Lol  And here I am J

Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about your book Two Timing the Boss?

Christine Warner: I’d love to!  This is a fun story about twin sisters who would do anything for each other…well, let me share the blurb J

BLURB:
To secure the funds for her twin sister's surgery, Farah Smith will need to sacrifice her values as well as alter her appearance to work for a man she finds morally bankrupt. With a blonde wig and stilettos strapped on, Farah’s a clone of Keller Donovan’s harem of past assistants, insuring a position within his company.

The moment Farah and Keller meet, she realizes her most daunting task isn’t the job, but fighting an attraction to a man whose ruthlessness is as legendary in the bedroom as it is in the boardroom.

Disillusioned by his parent’s disastrous marriage, Keller Donovan is determined no relationship should have more than a six-month shelf life. But after he meets Farah Smith, all bets are off. Suddenly he wants more than a personal assistant and private bed warmer. Unfortunately, his offer of an affair doesn’t sit well with her, despite the stranglehold she's put on his heart.

Can Farah and Keller find happiness and love over deceit and libido? Will the two embrace each other or hold fast to past history?
Holly: Where can we purchase Two Timing the Boss?

Christine Warner: You can actually purchase Two Timing the Boss and my other book (which was my debut) Some Like it in Handcuffs at the following links. Both are available in print and ebook. Just go to the links and type in the titles or my name and they’ll be there.

Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2012?

Christine Warner: That’s kind of up in the air right now!  Lol  I have a book with Entangled Publishing but I don’t have a release date yet…so stay tuned. And I hope to have several ready to sub my years end for a hopeful release in 2013.

Holly: Are you working on anything at the moment?

Christine Warner: I’m actually working on 3 stories at the moment. Two contemporary romances and another romantic suspense. I’m excited about them, and hope to finish all of them up by years end.

Holly: Can you tell us a little about your first publishing experience?

Christine Warner: The first book I wrote was Some Like it in Handcuffs which is a light-hearted romantic suspense with humor. I submitted the manuscript to The Wild Rose Press and they contracted the story. The process was long for my first book, about double the amount of time it took for Two Timing the Boss to release. If memory serves me right, I submitted that first book in December 2010 and I was offered the contract in April of 2011. From there I went through a couple rounds of edits and galleys and got the book cover and then the release date, which was March 23rd of this year.

Now Two Timing the Boss, like I said, went a lot quicker. Only eight months between submission to release.  Gotta love that!  lol

Holly: Your life is a romantic comedy; what humorous but very embarrassing thing happens on your first date/when you meet the love of your life?

Christine Warner: How come I’m having visions of either getting sick on some carnival ride or a wardrobe malfunction?  lol

Holly: How much of you or people you know do you think make it into the characters in your novel(s)?

Christine Warner: I think it’s a mixture. I’m a people watcher and also a good listener and have taken things from my own life experiences as well as what I’ve heard from friends, family and co-workers. I don’t believe you could pinpoint anything to one exact person, but it’s a recipe of several people. There’s nothing better than borrowing traits and habits or experiences from real people to make your own characters more 3D.

Holly: Do you think you will have a follow up book to this novel or is it just a stand-alone novel?

Christine Warner: I originally wrote Two Timing the Boss as a stand alone, but have had several people ask me to write Farah’s twin sisters story. Although I really enjoy Karah and love her larger than life personality, I’m not sure I’ll write her story.  I have a huge folder of story ideas and outlines and many of them are already shouting out to me to write them next! lol

Holly: Why this genre(s)?

Christine Warner: The first romances I read were contemporary and they’ve always remained my favorite. I feel like I know them best and I like the fact that they take place in the here and now. Makes it seem like it could really happen…to anyone at any time!

Holly: What is the hardest part of writing in your opinion?
Christine Warner: The balancing act. Finding time to write, have family time, market yourself…I admit I’m horrible at personal time management!

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

Christine Warner: First off, thanks for coming by today! Also, please leave a comment to be entered for a chance to win a copy of Two Timing the Boss.

Also, I would love to have you answer a question for me in the comments afterward.  Ready?  Here’s my question…lol
Holly: What is the easiest part of writing in your opinion?

Christine Warner: Definitely coming up with story ideas. I can get an idea from a television show, a sentence, a single word, something in a conversation, a picture…they possibilities are endless.

I have an overflowing folder of ideas for future stories. I just hope I can write them all!  lol

Random Quickies!

Holly: When do you prefer to read?

Christine Warner: Usually in the evenings. The house is settled and I can totally let myself fall between the pages of a good book.

Holly: Ebook or hardcover/paperback?

Christine Warner: I still love holding a paperback book in my hands, but I also have a NOOK and I am filling it up pretty quickly. I like the convenience of it. So I can’t really choose…it just depends on the book and my mood.

Holly: Favorite color?

Christine Warner: Love the bold, brightness of RED!

Holly: Night or day?

Christine Warner: I find it easier to write during the day—early morning to be exact—but I am a total night owl and love to stay up late, or should I say early into the morning.  Bad, bad habit.  lol

Holly: Dark Chocolate or Milk Chocolate?

Christine Warner: How about any chocolate?  Lol  White chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate…if it’s got chocolate I prefer it!

Two Timing the Boss
Christine Warner
Farah Smith is on a mission: secure the funds for her twin sister’s surgery.  She’ll do whatever it takes to succeed.  Even if that means putting her values aside to work for a man she finds morally bankrupt.  But when the real Farah meets her new boss, she wonders if she’ll be able to resist his sexy advances long enough to help her sister.
From the blonde wig, to the stilettos strapped around her ankles, Farah’s a clone of Keller Donovan’s harem of past assistants.  She can’t believe she’s let herself be talked into the disguise, let alone working for the man planning to demolish the hospital her sister so desperately needs, but the salary he offers is the only way she’ll be able to afford her sister’s surgery.  The moment Farah meets Keller she realizes her most daunting task isn’t typing, spreadsheets or organizing travel arrangements, but fighting the growing attraction toward a man whose ruthlessness is legendary in the boardroom as well as the bedroom.
Determined not to end up in a disastrous marriage like his divorced parents, Keller believes all relationships should have a shelf life of sixth months or less.  But when he meets Farah, all bets are off.  He not only wants her to continue as his personal assistant, but his own private bed warmer.  Unfortunately, his offer of an affair doesn’t sit well with her fairytale dreams or the strangled hold gripping his heart.

These damn shoes would be the death of her. She could read the headlines now: Penniless P.A. Falls to her Death while on Job Interview.
Almost to her destination, with no more mishaps, her confidence surfaced. Okay, maybe mastering this heel thing wouldn’t be such a big deal. Her steps became light, almost bouncy.
Although she sensed Keller Donovan behind her, she didn’t let it deter her feeling of success. She stepped onto the large black and red area rug, less than ten feet from her target. The leather chairs.
“Oh!” Farah’s spiky heel caught on the edge of the expensive rug. Her legs shook and she shot her arms out from her sides, circling them like a bird about to take flight. She fought to regain balance inside the ridiculous stilts strapped to her feet. A brawl to the death. Over when she looked down to see the rug coming up to kiss her face. She threw out her hands, sucked in a breath and closed her eyes, scrunching her face as she prepared for impact.
But nothing happened. There were stars all right, and a blazing jolt of electricity shot from her toes, up her legs, through her body and exited with the small gasp that escaped her lips. Somehow Keller Donovan had grabbed her around the waist before she met the floor.
Heat burned her cheeks. He may have saved her body from bruises, but her ego, and whatever confidence she’d walked in with had shattered.
“Let’s not have an accident before your health benefits kick in.” His breath tickled her ear from behind. Chills hugged her backbone.
His touch released an unsettling flutter in her abdomen. She sucked in her stomach from the pressure of his strong arms wrapped around her middle, afraid to breathe.

Christine Warner is living her dream in rural Michigan along with her husband, three children, one laptop and a much loved assortment of furry friends.
Thanks to her older sister, Christine learned to read and write before kindergarten and from there her love of books grew.  She still owns the first book she ever read, a tattered and well loved edition of The Kitten Twins.
Besides laughing and a good round of humor, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, reading, writing, but please—no arithmitic.  A confessed people watcher, she finds inspiration for her stories in everyday activities.  She admits to having a future stories folder bursting at the seams, the trouble is trying to decide which story to start next.  She loves to read and write romance about strong heroes and determined, sometimes sassy, heroines.  And she has a fascination with true crime novels as well.
A girl gone wild, at least where social media is concerned, she enjoys meeting other avid readers and writers on facebook, twitter and her website at christine-warner.com.

Interview with Lia Davis, author of Ravished Before Sunrise!

Please help me welcome author Lia Davis to Reading with Holly to talk about her book Ravished Before Sunrise! :)

Holly: Hi Lia! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Lia Davis: Hi! I’m a newly published author who had the writing bug bite a little more than three years ago after discovering paranormal romance. I live in northeast Florida with my soul mate, two young adult children, and two kitties. I love family time, nature, reading, writing, coffee and chocolate.

Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about your book, Ravished Before Sunrise?

Lia Davis: Ravished Before Sunrise is a Decadent Publishing 1Night Stand story about two people seeking adventure. Emalee wants a break from her less than exciting life. Darian has reached a time in his long existence where life has lost its appeal. So his daughter ‘gifts’ him a one-night stand.

Holly: Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?

Lia Davis: Emalee came to me first when I decided to write a 1Night Stand. I read some of the other 1NS stories and found them exciting and fun reads. I wanted to write one to see if it was as fun to write one. And it was!

Holly: Where can we purchase Ravished Before Sunrise?

And anywhere else eBooks are sold

Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2012?

Lia Davis: I have a couple of self published titles releasing later this year. Death’s Storm, book 2 of my Divinities series is targeted for the fall and Winter Eve, book 1 of my new shifter series—Ashwood Falls—will release in December.

Holly: Can you tell us a little about your first publishing experience?

Lia Davis: Ravished Before Sunrise was my first publishing experience and it was great. I had a great editor and learned so much about my writing and editing process. I will definitely be writing more for Decadent Publishing.

Holly: Why this genre(s)?

Lia Davis: I write paranormal romance because I love to read it. I love the diverse and creative worlds with danger and suspense at every turn.

Holly: What is your favorite part of writing?

Lia Davis: Creating my own world to escape to. Writing is my decompressed. LOL. If I’m having a bad day—or week--I can escape and fight some demons.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

Lia Davis: That I love them and thank them for the support they show.

Holly: What is your take on editing your work (pre-edits I suppose before it gets passed to an editor)—do you hate it? Is it a strong point for you?

Lia Davis: I like the revision/editing stage. It is where I can take the draft and shape it into the final product before my editor gets her hands on it.

Random Quickies!

Holly: Ebook or hardcover/paperback?

Lia Davis: All three. I love my Kindle, but still buy the print version from time-to-time.

Holly: Pepsi or Coke?

Lia Davis: Coke Zero

Emalee’s pulse raced as she drummed her fingers on her desk and searched the website. A giddiness she hadn’t known since senior prom ran through her. The site claimed unlimited possibilities, a chance for adventure. Could they mean it? Because she’d already seen things beyond what humans deemed possible. Hell, her whole existence was unimaginable.
Her life had taken a lonesome turn when a friend she hadn’t seen since high school noted how much younger than the rest of her classmates she looked.  Her long-lasting youth had become a liability. Drawing too much attention to her unusual gift wouldn’t prove wise. In some cases, it could get her killed.  With no alternative, she’d closed the door on her life among humans and moved into the local witch coven, where everyone was different.
“What will you do?” Her best friend since preschool, a coven member in good standing, sat next to her for moral support and encouragement. Ema didn’t need much encouragement. The second Beth had mentioned a one-night stand, she’d been hooked. And Madame Eve’s dating service would save her from dying of boredom, at least for one night.
But could she go through with it? A wicked smile tugged at her lips and her inner voice said, “Hell, yeah.” Human strangers gave her a sense of safety. They knew nothing about her past or her unusual abilities.
“Just one night?”

Lia Davis is a mother to two young adults and two very special, equally different kitty cats. She’s a wife to her soul mate, who drives her crazy during editing/revisions. She and her family live in Northeast Florida battling hurricanes and very humid summers. But it’s her home and she loves it!
An accounting major, Lia has always been a dreamer with a very activity imagination. The wheels in her head never stop. She only recently became serious about publishing her work and loves it more than she imagined. Writing is a stress reliever that allows her to go off in her corner of the house and enter into another world she created, leaving the day job where it belongs.
Her favorite things are spending time with family, traveling, reading, writing, chocolate, coffee, nature and hanging out with her kitties.

Excerpt of Dare to Act by Leigh Ellwood!!

I am excited to present a excerpt of Dare to Act by Leigh Ellwood today!

Excerpt:

“I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the rehearsal. You have a great ensemble there, and I liked how the script and the action flowed.” Parker sipped his coffee. “If I had to offer anything constructive, just based on what I saw, I think maybe your Titania could slow things down a bit. There were parts where it sounded rushed, and she slurred her words. Even if you’re going to use the original Shakespeare with the contemporary sets, people still need to understand what everybody is saying.”
“I don’t disagree with you there. Janie’s audition was practically flawless, too, but lately it appears that she’s somewhere else during rehearsal. Mentally, that is,” Luke said.
“Gotcha. I thought my presence might have distracted her, but you’re saying this isn’t an isolated incident.”
Luke shook his head. He wished he could attribute the rehearsal gaffes to Parker’s presence—Lord knew he had trouble concentrating on anything besides Parker’s smile and long legs stretched out as he reclined—but he knew he needed to deal with Janie soon.

“Anything else you liked or disliked?” he asked. “We have a full dress rehearsal in a few days, beginning to end. If you’re not busy, you’re welcome to sit in.” His crew would think him insane for making the suggestion, considering how he didn’t let even his mother linger in the auditorium after delivering his lunch. Eventually the play would open to a live audience, even if the prospect of someone witnessing the rough product unnerved Luke.
If Parker proved the lone exception, it was because Luke liked having the man near, and sitting close to him like this was nearly ideal.
Parker nodded, as though pondering the invitation. “I suppose I should get a rental car tomorrow if I’m going to be out and about while I’m here,” he said. “My parents have given me use of their cars, but I don’t like holding them up, even though they insist I don’t go to any extravagant lengths to make things more convenient for them.”
Luke laughed. “They actually said that? Man, if I were raking in millions, my mother would be shopping for vacation homes in the Bahamas. Forherself.”
“They let me go wild at Christmas, but that’s about it. I wouldn’t say I’m raking in millions, not like DiCaprio or Tom Cruise, but I do well.” Parker wrapped his hands around his mug and studied the contents. “They spent their lives together not having much, forever wondering about the next paycheck, so they feel it’s wiser to keep the money in the bank. You know, after I signed my first film contract, instead of popping open some champagne, I got a lecture about investing wisely.” Parker raised his eyebrows, looking quite comical as he spoke. “Because the movie could flop, and then where would I be?”
Luke laughed again, shaking his head. He knew Parker’s filmography. The man had yet to star in a bomb.
“The more I think about it, they had a point,” Parker continued. “I don’t have an agent right now, and I don’t know if she’s taking calls or blowing people off. When people do realize I have no representation, would they call me directly?”
“That sounds typical given the circumstances, but are you really worried about not getting offers?”
“Maybe.” Parker smiled. “I’m not hurting for money, but I like to work. I thought this signaled a change in my career path, but I realize I’m not ready to retire. I suppose I could try for more indie projects.”
“There’s always the stage,” Luke said.
“Yes. I’m going to need new representation anyway. I should shoot up to New York for a weekend and scout some prospects.” After a brief silence, Parker held up his mug. “Refill?”
Luke curled a hand over the rim of his mug. “I’m good, thanks. It has kick—either that or I’m failing at holding my liquor tonight.”
“I know I am. Whoa.” Parker stood and wobbled, but quickly corrected himself and moved to set his mug on a shelf inside the garage. “I should throw in the towel as well.”
“Okay.” Luke carried his mug over to Parker. “Well, thanks for having me over. Hopefully we’ll see you—”
The rest of his sentence was muted, thanks to the kiss Parker planted on his lips. He held Luke’s face close and stroked his cheeks with his thumbs. Luke shuffled into a more comfortable posture and wrapped his arms around Parker’s waist. He tasted whiskey and cream and moaned appreciatively when his host pulled him tight.
Their bodies joined, Luke closed his eyes and focused on the hands that stroked his back and slid down his spine to cup his ass. Hard muscle brushed against his groin, stirring his cock in his jeans. Luke wondered when Parker decided that this was a good idea, but knew better to question good fortune.
Gripping Parker at the waist, he broke off the kiss and took in a deep breath. “Your parents,” he began.
“Go to bed early, and even if they decided to stay up late they wouldn’t be coming out here,” Parker finished for him. “Like you intimated earlier today, our mothers hatched a plan, and my folks knew I asked you to stop by. There’s no way in hell they’re going to butt in and break this up.”
Parker twined his fingers with Luke’s and beckoned him to follow. They walked around the garage, along the landscaped exterior of the house. “Let me show you something,” Parker said.

Dare to Act
Leigh Ellwood

When actor Parker Stigwood stuns the world by doing the unthinkable on live television, he's convinced his career is over. Disgusted by Hollywood hypocrisy, he pushes the pause button on his life and retreats to his parents' home in Dareville to contemplate his future. Little does he realize, various forces have plans for him on a personal and professional level.
Luke Hall is excited to direct his first play for the local arts center, more so when the handsome movie star volunteers to watch rehearsals and offer pointers. Luke would rather watch Parker, but there are interruptions to his viewing pleasure. When a well-meaning friend seeking benefits places doubts in Luke's head about Parker's intentions, Luke wonders if their relationship will bomb at the box office.
On and off-stage, Luke and Parker's passion sizzles. But will Parker dare to act on his feelings for Luke and leave his star behind for good?
