Interview & Giveaway with D L Jackson, author of Rebel Souls!

Please help me welcome author D L Jackson to Reading with Holly!
Holly: Hi D L Jackson! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

D L Jackson: I’m an author of science fiction, military, dystopian, paranormal romance and erotic romance. I love chatting with my readers and lurking around the blogs. You never know where or when I’ll turn up.

Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about your book, Rebel Souls?

D L Jackson: Here’s the blurb:

“Good morning, Duchess.”

Born in the fires of revolution and baptized in the blood of those who fought for a better life, Captain Ava Frost smuggles illegal materials to a war machine that will someday free her people from an oppressive government...until her path crosses with a Regulator commander.

Seth Reynold’s mission is to find the dangerous cargo of fissile materials. When he stops Ava at a wormhole, his ethics and beliefs are compromised. Torn between duty and love, Seth is determined to find out what Ava is hiding, but her fiancé is standing in his way.

Back from the dead, Brodie Mark—a leader of the revolution, a man that challenges Ava’s loyalties in every way imaginable—wants her back and will do whatever it takes to help her realize her heritage.

While falling for the enemy and endangering all that the underground rebels had struggled to achieve, Ava must make a choice between love and duty. But is she ready to sacrifice a freedom in its infancy for a love that comes once in a lifetime?

“No man flies three days to the edge of Nexian space without a reason.”

Holly: Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?

D L Jackson: Most definitely the characters. The book evolved around them.

Holly: What was the inspiration for this novel?

D L Jackson: I wanted to write a love triangle. I have written ménage in the past, but not a triangle. I love the push and pull, the intense emotions that can come out of this kind of set up.

Holly: Where can we purchase Rebel Souls?

D L Jackson: Amazon:  http://www.amazon.com/Rebel-Souls-ebook/dp/B0087GQERW

Barnes & Noble:  http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/rebel-souls-dl-jackson/1111320576

Decadent Publishing:  http://www.decadentpublishing.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=113&products_id=558&osCsid=n0h738p744astkhiggc8dtc4n1

Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2012?

D L Jackson: That’s a hard one to anwser. I’ve released six stories this year already with Decadent. Three for the Edge line, a 1Night Stand, an Elatian story and Rebel Souls. I am working on several others, but depending on how fast I finish them and get them submitted, will determine if they come out later in the year or next year. It’s a hard call right now. I work a 40+ hour a week job, so my writing goes a little slower than I’d like.

Holly: Are you working on anything at the moment?

D L Jackson: Several. I have a couple I’m hoping to re-release with Decadent that I’ve been working on the sequels to. Since this is currently something I’m submitting for consideration, I hesitate to say what novels. I also have a couple others I’m wrapping up for submission.

Holly: Can you tell us a little about your first publishing experience?

D L Jackson: This one makes me laugh. I’d just sold my home and was fixing up an old dance hall. It wasn’t nearly ready to move into at the time. It was winter, December and January, and I was staying in my Mother-in-law’s unheated garage. So no internet access. I went to Panera Breads to check my emails and get something hot to eat. A novel I’d submitted had been accepted. I squealed. Now, this wasn’t a soft squeal, this was a loud, everyone-in-the-building-could-hear-it, kind of squeal, and totally not intentional. I looked up and everyone was staring. I must have turned dark red, I sure felt hot. Embarrassed, I shut my laptop and rushed out to my car, where I proceeded to finish my celebration, and got several more questionable looks from people in the parking lot.

Holly: Do you think you may ever go into another genre?

D L Jackson: Yes, I’m working on a Young Adult novel now.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

D L Jackson: Sure. I’m so glad you stopped by. Pull up a chair and hang out for a bit. I’m dying to talk about my new book.

Holly: Do you think you will have a follow up book to this novel or is it just a stand-alone novel?

D L Jackson: Yes, it’s called Secondhand Rebels. But when, is another question. I have a lot of irons in the fire. I’ll call it a stand alone for now.

Seth slammed his hand into the gel pad, releasing the lock to the hanger that housed Ava’s ship. The steel blast door slid open and Ava whipped around, her back to an engine compartment where she’d been working. A smudge of something black streaked across one cheek, and her hair hung loose around her shoulders. She wore a red thermal shirt, tan canvas pants, and black boots that stopped just above her knees, looking every bit the smuggler he’d fantasized about for days.

“What are you doing here, Captain Reynolds?”

There wasn’t a good answer for it. Plain and simple, he needed her, wanted her, and he’d be damned if he held back now. He strode up to her, grabbed her wrist, and tugged her into his arms.

Her fingers laced into his hair, and she tipped her face up to look him in the eyes. “You didn’t answer my question.”

“Are you alone?”

“Yes, my crew is on leave.” Her gaze traveled to the hanger doors. “You shouldn’t be here.”

He watched the way her lips formed the words but heard little of what she said. Need pounded through him and only one thing would relieve it. Gods, he wanted her. “No.” No, he shouldn’t be. No, he shouldn’t kiss her. No, he wasn’t thinking about duty tonight. He dipped his head and captured her mouth the way he’d wanted to for the last three weeks, backing her against the forward drive. He tore at her shirt and the buckle on her aviator’s pants, desperate to touch her bare flesh, be inside her. His hands grabbed her bottom, and he lifted her from her feet and pressed her against the side of her ship. She wrapped her legs around his waist. With a gasp, her mouth opened to him. He thrust his tongue in and savored her flavor, needing more, starved for her.

Ava was everything opposite to the law he upheld, all he stood against, but it didn’t have to be that way. It wasn’t too late. He ran his hands up her shirt, cupping the bare breasts underneath. The pads of his thumbs grazed her nipples, and she arched into him, growling low in her throat.

He pulled his mouth away. “I need you now.”

“Take me inside the Avira.” Heat blazed through her eyes. “Or take me here. I don’t care, as long as you take me.”

  2. Hey Dawn! I had a similar reaction to my first contract, but I was at home in my kitchen. I also may have jumped up and down enough to knock a coffee mug out of the cupboard and smash it.

    Maybe. I admit nothing.
