Anya’s wish for a normal date—away from the old man she is caretaker for—comes true in unexpected ways when she finds herself whisked to an ancient Irish stone circle on solstice eve.

Carrick’s decision to follow the path to become an Ovate druid has not come lightly, and he plans to spend the solstice eve in meditation unless fairies or evil spirits disrupt the circle. When a feisty girl walks right up to the fire, more than sparks fly.

They each seek healing and a connection, but the darkness of summer is short, and once the solstice sun breaks through the circle at dawn, the magic of the night will be over. Even Madame Eve can’t stop the day from rising.

Maybe I’m the first person Madame Eve can’t find a match for. And how was it any better than just picking someone up from one of the dozen bars along the street?

Bile filled her throat. Being caretaker for the old man had filled her days but left her empty inside. I’m lonely. I need this 1Night Stand. She stifled a sob. Crying wouldn’t help anything. She had chosen her path knowing full well what the consequences would be. Maybe she hadn’t foreseen how deeply alone she’d feel, but she’d known what she was getting into, work-wise. She used to be a risk taker, impulsive and willing to try new things. Why was she so willing to settle for security now?

The town’s few buildings rose in shadowed relief in the dusky twilight around the city center like tall stones. Guardians, perhaps. Behind them lay the mountains, the wild unknown. She sat straight and leaned into the faint spray from the fountain. The cool mist spread across the back of her arms. Closing her eyes, she lifted her long hair so the moisture could reach the back of her neck.

“Aine?”

Anya dropped her hair.

“Hello?” No one.

“Aine. Let’s go.” The voice floated on drops of water and fell through the air.

“What?” No one was near.

“I’m here.” The voice settled softly like dew on her skin. The air wavered over the fountain and the water slowed.

I only had one beer.

“Come. He awaits.”

For the briefest moment, a golden light eclipsed the edge of Anya’s vision then darkness slid over her.

Interview & Giveaway with Leslie Lee Sanders, author of Before the Darkness!

Please help me welcome author Leslie Lee Sanders to Reading with Holly! :)

Holly: Hi Leslie! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Leslie Lee Sanders: I'm an erotica and erotic romance author who write mostly MM and MMF stories. I've been writing since elementary school and began writing erotica in 2005.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?
Leslie Lee Sanders: I appreciate all my readers and say so whenever and however I can. I've dedicated a few of my books to my readers and posted a message at the top of my website to remind them that I value the time they spend reading my books. Thank you for taking a dive into my imagination, readers!
Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about your book Before the Darkness?
Leslie Lee Sanders: Before the Darkness (Refuge Inc., #1) is an MM post-apocalyptic erotic romance that takes place in a ruined Phoenix the days after an asteroid impact. It follows survivors Elliot and Adam and focuses on their growing attraction for each other as they hunt for spray painted signs across Phoenix. Signs directing them to a mysterious place called Refuge Inc. Book one is a dark, suspenseful, character-driven introduction to the series and an in-depth look at the characters and their companionship
Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?

Holly: What was the inspiration for this novel?
Leslie Lee Sanders: I was bored with writing pure erotica and was far too eager to get back into writing about more serious issues as well as the sexual relationships of the story characters. What's more serious than the 2012 end of the world talk going on right now? I've been pretty interested in the end of the world concept for a story and figure now was the best time to get my story out of my head and to the masses.
Holly: Are you working on anything at the moment?
Leslie Lee Sanders: Yes, I am. Book two of the Refuge Inc. series, Amid the Darkness, is my current work in progress. This story is more of an MM post-apocalyptic dystopian erotic romance. Without giving too much away, it follows the same characters immediately after the first book and further explores the mysteries of Refuge Inc.
Holly: Is there a genre that you love to read, and would like to write, but just can not?
Leslie Lee Sanders: I read a lot of nonfiction, especially books about writing. I don't think I have enough experience with the full spectrum of writing and publishing to become a nonfiction writer … yet. I think I need a little more experience and become more of an expert to be able to put out more than one book on writing.
Holly: What is your favorite part of writing?

Leslie Lee Sanders: Finishing. Only because to finish writing a novel is hard work, and although having the book finally available to readers is a bit exciting and scary, having it out there to entertain is the best part of being in the business.

Random Quickies!

Or will the mystery of Refuge Inc. cause diverse expectations and lead them to decisions that further threaten their lives?

"See that dark color on the horizon?" Adam pointed to the east, suddenly looking somber. "That's a wall of smoke, ash, dust and who knows what else, and it's coming our way."

"What? What do you mean?" A bit of panic began to stir in Elliot's stomach like a bowl of his mother's spicy and overly greasy chili. He'd thought the worst was over.

"Ever heard of impact winter?" Adam's green eyes pierced his and neither moved. "What's headed for us isn't good. We're gonna have to take shelter somewhere and fast before it blocks out all light and it gets so dark we won't be able to tell which way is up. Can't run from it either," he added, as if predicting Elliot's next question. "Been watching it for a couple hours now and it's moving pretty fast."

"What do you mean it's going to get dark?" He knew he looked like a wide-eyed idiot, but he didn't care much about his appearance at the moment.

"Let me put it this way. Once the sun sets we're not gonna see it rise for quite some time. That wall of soot headed our way is so thick it will block out the sun. It will take months, maybe years, for all the crap to fall down."

"Are you sure?" He dipped his eyebrows suspiciously. "How do you know all this?"

"When those assholes finally told us that an asteroid might hit, I went looking for info about anything to do with asteroids hitting Earth and that's what I found out. We need to find some shelter."

Elliot looked at the dark grey horizon. Indeed, the cloud of unnerving darkness grew bigger, wider, closer. His heart dropped, it sank in the pit of his stomach like a ton of concrete rubble. "We're not going to make it, huh?" He gulped, suddenly feeling defeated. Panic. "What's the point in finding shelter when we're not gonna live to see the sun again?"

Adam grabbed his hand, gave it a gentle squeeze and let it loose before Elliot realized it had happened. The friendly squeeze hadn't been part of his imagination. A look of sincerity and concern painted Adam's handsome face. "I was beginning to think the same thing and then I saw you. Like I said, two heads are better than one."

Fergus and the gang return in another passion-packed, erotically charged black comedy-yaoi caper complete with hot full-color illustrations, that will have you on the edge of your seat right up until the very last page.

After the dust has settled on the disastrous bank robbery that almost spelled the end of one of the sawn off shotgun wielding wise guys, there is the little matter of dividing up the loot. Every man is eager for his cut, but there’s just one problem. It seems that one of the greedy gangsters has helped himself already!

Was it the scar faced Rasputin, who’d been left alone with the lolly and an age old grudge? Could it have been the bed hopping bisexual Judas MacGregor’s pierced and perfect protégé, Vinny? Or has Vinny been too busy finding out just why the yakuza-like bodyguard, Cain, is known as The Legend?

The beautiful brothel keeper, Mikhail Majewski, is keeping a low profile while all of this mayhem has been going on. He’s not answering Fergus Campbell’s numerous texts and phone calls. Has he absconded with the readies? Or is he just a little bit tied up at the moment?

Purcahse:

If you are trying to avoid something, like say for instance, you wish to lose weight and feel that to cut out chocolate would help you get into that size ten sooner, it is never wise to assume that you could sample some of the sweet confectionery and not want more.
Mikhail Majewski was the owner of a successful brothel and for most his life lived under the impression that there was really no such thing as love. Then straight out of the blue it seemed, he fell head over his fancy heels for Fergus Campbell, a local gangster who also happened to be married. Now, it did not bother Mikhail at all that Fergus was already taken, as although many men claim their marriage to be over whilst in the midst of starting an affair, for Fergus this age old excuse was actually true. Fergus was married to a neurotic young alcoholic named Hugo. A needy little psychopath with a penchant for meddling.
Perhaps bizarrely, Mikhail had a hand in the rescue of the relationship between Fergus and his husband. The brothel keeper found love to be such a stressful state of being and knew that Hugo needed Fergus more, so it had just seemed like the right thing to do.
But as he stood outside of Fergus’s club, The Flying Garter, he told himself over and over again, he was only there as a friendly gesture. He would see how Fergus was, ask politely after Hugo and then he would leave.
He lifted his chin resolutely, then hastily pulled an ornate little mirror from out of his pocket. He checked his features before he applied some powder to his already perfectly made up face. To describe Mikhail as effeminate would have been an understatement. He wore as much make up as a woman would, perhaps even a little more and arranged his platinum blond hair in angelic curls around his quite beautiful face. Today, much like all days, he dressed from top to toe in white. Even his high heeled boots were white, the gold buckles on the side of them an echo of the many gold chains that he wore and the multitude of pale jewelled rings on his fingers.
A few tentative steps brought him towards the door to the establishment, where Rasputin, Fergus’s bodyguard and doorman, opened it for him without his needing to knock on the red painted wood. Of course, a club owned by a Campbell would have security cameras trained on the entrance. So had Fergus observed Mikhail’s cautious arrival? He dearly hoped not. Rasputin was a fearsome looking individual with a long scar that ran up one cheek and straight though a rather milky looking useless eye. Mikhail, however, had met him before and was not so taken aback by his appearance.
“Come on in, Mr Majewski.” The brutish sounding man held the door to let him pass and Mikhail walked into the club with as much confidence as he could muster. His heels clicked sharply on the dark wood of the floor, creating an assertive echo that in no way reflected how he actually felt.
Fergus sat at the bar with a newspaper in his hands, a coffee cup at his side. No steam rose from the cup so it appeared that he had let it go cold and Mikhail stared at him, battling with the urge to just to walk back outside again, climb into his limo never to return. Although he was without a doubt a violent man, Fergus was extremely handsome. He had dark collar length hair, grey eyes and naturally tan skin. A small amount of perfectly sculpted stubble accentuated his strong chin and framed his attractive mouth. He wore a crisp white shirt and Mikhail let out a helpless sigh as he noticed how the finely toned muscles of the broad back and arms underneath still showed through.
Clearly overhearing the sigh, Fergus turned his head a fraction. His eyes widened in recognition, then he turned fully, a warm smile on his lips. “Mikhail!” He got up from his seat and walked towards him and Mikhail had the sudden compulsion to embrace him but he knew that Fergus wouldn’t like that. Not such an open display of affection in a public place.
“Hello, Mr Campbell.” Mikhail extended his hand and as Fergus reached to clasp it in his own, the smile slipped from his lips.
His eyes betrayed a touch of sadness. “Mr Campbell is it now?” He nodded slowly and his fingers still held Mikhail’s in a gentle grip. “I suppose I really do deserve that. So what can I do for you, Mr Majewski?”
Mikhail angled his head and looked at him sorrowfully. “No please, Fergus…I meant nothing by addressing you as Mr Campbell…I just…I was not so sure that you would want to see me and—“
“Mikhail, please.” Fergus took him firmly by the elbow and led him to the private office next to the bar. Even though Mikhail still felt rather awkward, he had an inward thrill at the touch of the other man’s strong hand.
As soon as they reached the privacy of the small room, Fergus first closed the door, then he took both of Mikhail’s hands and he held them in his own. “Do you know that I have been frantic with worry about you? Wondering why I didn’t hear from you? You just…you just decided yourself that you were going to leave me to Hugo and you never even wondered if that’s what I wanted?” He stared into Mikhail’s eyes, his expression one of obvious loss and Mikhail looked back at him imploringly.
“Fergus, it was for the best. Hugo needs you.” He wanted to continue but Fergus shocked him by allowing Mikhail’s hands to drop from his grip. Fergus began to pace around the room and Mikhail was unsure of what to do. At a zoo in Poland, Mikhail once saw a male cheetah that had been separated from its mate and newly born young. The dangerous looking predator could see its family through the bars but could not touch them. Clearly this was a precaution in case the animal decided to kill the cubs. Fergus reminded Mikhail of the poor creature as he prowled back and forth, his mind clearly in some kind of turmoil over their enforced separation.

Interview & Giveaway with KevaD, author of Kantu's Heart!

Please help me welcome author KevaD to Reading with Holly! :)

Holly: Hi, KevaD! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

KevaD: No.
Ow!! Jeez. Cool it with the stiletto heels already.

I’m KevaD. David Kentner to the IRS and my wife’s insurance policy she took out on me. I’m a fulltime writer and have the unpaid bills to prove it. In my leisure time I enjoy feeding unicorns, climbing rainbows, collecting wishes, and mending broken dreams. I’ve been known to stand naked by the mailbox and wave at the fire trucks when they go by. Okay. Not really. I wore a mask, and it was a neighbor’s mailbox. I’ll let you decide if that’s a true story or not.

Holly: When did you realize that you would like to write and publish a book?

KevaD: When I was being processed into jail for public nudity and the deputy said this would make a great story.

Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about your book Kantu’s Heart?

KevaD: Of course I can. I wrote it.

Holly: Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?

KevaD: Serious answer: When author Barbara Sheridan first approached me about writing a story for Decadent Publishing’s Western Escape line, the character Kantu immediately stepped up. I envisioned a cave-dwelling warrior and his mate who are murdered in their time by a roving band of cannibals. He awakens in a strange world filled with buildings, machines, and people he can’t understand – people who do not respect the earth and the life that inhabits it. He believes he’s being punished for failing to protect his clan and mate, until he spots his mate, his heart Sanda, in the arms of the man who killed her. Then Kantu embarks on a mission to win back his heart and avenge his people.

Sandra Harn can’t explain her attraction to the ferocious man who leaps into a bullring to protect the animal from young Crow braves slapping its snout in displays of courage for the town’s annual Native American Heritage events. When the exotic warrior turns his unfurled fury on her companion, real estate developer Paul Carson, Sandra’s mind says run, but her body begs surrender.

Holly: You’re out demon hunting (because you’re that kind of awesome) and you come across one about to kill a young couple. He has not seen you yet; what is your first course of action?

KevaD: Set up a live feed to Facebook. This is gonna get good!

Holly: Are you working on anything at the moment?

KevaD: As I said, I write fulltime, so there’s always a current project on the computer. Actually, there are usually three or four vying for my attention.
Author H.C. Brown and I decided to team up for a couple of erotic series. She pens sex and romance as well as anybody in the business. My specialty is characterization and intriguing plots. Our first completed story “Sea Games” is already in the hands of publishers for consideration. Stay tuned.

Holly: How much of you or people you know do you think make it into the characters in your novel(s)?

KevaD: A lot. I’m a people watcher. I absorb the tiny nuances and gestures, the line of a brow, the unbalanced curve of a smile, the graze of a fingertip over a companion’s arm, people’s interaction whether good or bad. The human mind absolutely fascinates me. That’s why most of the stories I write are born from a character and not a plot. I build circumstances around the character for him or her to react in. I know how the story will start and end, but how we get there isn’t set in stone, and I’m usually just as surprised as anybody by the route we travel.

Holly: What is the easiest part of writing in your opinion?

KevaD: Fiction is telling a believable lie. I’m a great liar.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

KevaD: Yes.

Back away from the shoe. I know how to use this can of pepper spray.

Holly: What is your favorite part of writing?

KevaD: The journey. When I’m writing, I’m not detached from my work at all. I’m with the characters every step of the way, seeing what they see, feeling what they feel. It really isn’t uncommon for my wife to chuckle at me when I’m sitting at my desk blubbering over a scene that just broke my heart.

Random Quickies!

Holly: When do you prefer to read?

KevaD: Whenever my wife wants to have a serious discussion.

Holly: Ebook or hardcover/paperback?

KevaD: I read both, but there’s nothing like the feel and smell of a book in my hands.

Holly: Pepsi or Coke?

KevaD: Pepsi. I also happen to believe you’re never too old to enjoy a shot of Pepsi in a glass of chocolate milk.

Holly: Favorite book?

KevaD: Currently, it’s "Gangsters, Harlots & Thieves: Down and Out at the Hotel Clifton." Theron Moore put together a collection of his father Todd Moore’s poems and essays about growing up in a seedy hotel with his would-be gangster, alcoholic father who did odd jobs for the Capones. The book is a marvelous peek inside back alley life of that era.

Holly: Dark Chocolate or Milk Chocolate?

KevaD: Heretic! Chocolate is a gift of the gods, meant to be revered and worshipped in all its forms.

Title: Kantu's Heart (DP’s “Western Escape” Series)
Author: KevaD
Publisher: Decadent Publishing
Length: 159 pages
Main Sub-Genres: Contemporary Romance, Romantic Suspense
Sub-Categories: Erotic

Blurb:
Before the ice age, warrior Kantu lost his tribe, his mate Sanda, and his life to a vicious band of cannibals led by his most powerful enemy. He awakens in a world beyond his comprehension only to find his mate in the arms of her killer. Misery and strength meld into one goal—to win back his heart and kill his enemy.

With a nudge from her gentle guardian, Sandra Harn travels to Freewill, WY, looking for bargains at the annual rummage sale and, hopefully, answers to her mysterious past. Once there, visions of a time before the town existed make her question her sanity. When an exotic stranger with flowing raven hair and a body she can’t resist tries to kill her companion, logic tells her to run, but her heart and body have other ideas.

A shift in the slight breeze carried a faint hint of animals mixed in a pack. The wrong animals. Tware, sconta, and garrel did not travel together, did not feed or birth their young anywhere close to each other. Kantu jerked his head from side to side and inhaled short bursts of air. The draft rolled and turned as if a child at play in a stream’s mud, and the scent escaped his track. He closed his eyes and slowly faced the four corners of the winds in the hope the beings above and below would give him the wisdom to understand why these plant feeders had gathered without reason. Or had they come together?

At the base of his neck, a ball of heat bore into his body and slithered to his brain where it crumbled and floated through him until lingering once more under the skin on his forehead. With the sensation came the scents. The odd mix of smells dripped like melting icicles into his nose. Kantu quickly layered the traces. Garrel to his left, tware in front, sconta right. A stench remained. Sweat. Man sweat.

Kantu opened his eyes and shifted his gaze to the gray sky rocks where he had left his people…and Sanda...more than a day ago in the caves, in safety while he found a garrel herd’s trail. His tribe weren’t warriors. Man hunters would find the caves and feast on his people, then wear the hides and skins Kantu and his hunters provided the clan. That was the mix of the animals—man hunters clad in their stolen hides and skins. He traced his fingers over the long, bumpy lines from his left shoulder to his right hip. Only he bore the three claw marks of a warrior.

“Sanda!” he screamed to the sky rocks. Kantu gripped his spear sticks and ran.
