“I need to ask you something first.”

His brow furrowed, but he shrugged. “Okay.”

“Yes,” he said, in a low voice. “She insisted.” When she still clutched his arm, he smiled. “I understand caution, let me show you something.” Lukas reached over her to the center console. So close, his warmth and the clean scent of soap went to her head. Hang on, Jane. Even if he is the cutest guy you’ve ever met, and smells so good.

He retrieved his cell phone and clicked to a text message. “Look at this.”

I have confirmed the location of your date and we can schedule your evening. I hope you understand the safety of my clients is paramount, yours as well as Ms. Summers. Thank you for your cooperation. M.E.

Reassured, Jane faced away from him. “Do it, then.” She closed her eyes and tried not to flinch as the soft cloth covered her face. It tightened and then his hands dropped to her shoulders.

“Okay?” His fingers rested on her collarbones, inches from her breasts. Her eyes strained, but the several folds prevented the least bit of starlight from entering.

“I can’t see a thing.” But she could still feel his touch moving down her arms, past her short sleeves, and onto bare skin. The desert wind soughed; her heart thumped in her ears. Hyperaware of the man behind her, she waited to see what he would do next.

“Why are you doing this?” she challenged. Her emotions rolled, making her feel unbalanced. It had been a long three months. And it seemed like today was only going to get worse.

“You can stop this.” She struggled to contain her anger. “You started this; you can end it.”

“I know, but I won’t.”

“You, you—” Enraged, she lifted a hand to slap him.

Joshua caught her hand midair, held it tight. Before she could react, he pushed her back against the wall, pinning her to it with his rigid body. Christy felt every bit of him, his strength, and his physical nature that he never bothered to hide.

“I think I have the perfect answer for all your bottled-up rage,” he said as he parted her thighs with his leg.

“Move,” she ordered, her throat dry and croaky, betraying her increasing apprehension.

Joshua had it easy. He was a man at home with his masculinity. She had never been able to resist him. He could have any woman he wanted. Sometimes, she wondered if he had, especially during their separation. She shouldn’t care if he’d been with anyone else. After all, her goal was a divorce. Still, she couldn’t suppress the intensity of her feelings. Perhaps her anger and hatred drove the concentration of her emotions.

“We have to get a few things sorted out first,” he replied.

He moved closer, his body flush against hers; his chest crushed her breasts, his thighs pressed against hers. Though she wore cotton trousers and a tank top, all of him stroked her.

“What are you doing?” she asked as she pushed against him.

He didn’t budge. “Just trying to relieve some of your frustration. That’s what all your aggression has been about, isn’t it?”

“Rubbish!”

“Such vehement denial, when the evidence is so obvious.”

Her face stung with revealing heat as warm blood rose in her body. Mortified, she tried to move to shake him off, but only managed to get her body even more entangled with his.

Her breathing came in short snatches. She became more aware of Joshua, his hardness and heat.

“I hate you.” Her voice sounded strangled. Blistering white rage swept through her.

“You lie, sweetheart.”

He lowered his head, trailing his lips against her cheeks in a tormenting caress.

“You love me.”

“Don’t tell me what to do.” Glaring at him, she stood before the bar, her magnificent hair slipping from its pins, her breasts rising and falling.

Abruptly, his mouth went dry. Clearing his throat some, he said, “You’re supposed to offer succor to those in need.”

“We’re closed, remember?” Paint-less lips pressed tight together, she glared up at him.

They were so close he could see the faint marks of freckles on her skin.

Pearl La Monte had freckles.

A kind of haze came over him, tightening his skin and bringing with it something all-fired powerful and completely unstoppable. All the years he’d known her crashed through him, all the times she’d flirted with him and meant something else, all the times he’d seen her perform on stage and wished he could have held such fire.

Grabbing her upper arms, he hauled her against him and, ignoring her shocked gasp, he covered her mouth with his.

Georgiana Derwent read History at Oxford University. Aside from the vampires, The Cavaliers Series is an exaggerated but fairly accurate portrayal of her time there. She now works in London and lives with her fiancé. He’s been very supportive throughout the writing of her books, mainly because he likes to claim that all the most attractive characters are based on him.

Georgiana fell in love with vampire novels after reading The Vampire Diaries back in 2000. At the time it was a struggle to find any similar paranormal romances, a situation that it’s fair to say seems to have been rectified in the last few years. 4 Stars!

I am a fan of historical romance and The Blind Cupid has a historical setting so there was no way I could pass it up, and the steamy sex scenes was like the cherry on top of a yummy desert! I would have loved for it to be longer but that is just because I did not want it to end so soon.

Overall I really liked it and I’d recommend The Blind Cupid to anyone looking for a short, hot read with a historical setting.

Excerpt:

The bell clanged. Dear God, the man had arrived. Taking a fortifying breath, she smoothed her skirt and walked toward the front entrance. She’d given Mrs. Tamblen two days off to visit her sister. She didn’t need her maid/cook knowing she had a strange man in her house. She’d pay him and send him away.

Anne opened the door and illuminated from the setting sun stood —the Adonis. Her breath seized in her chest. The man was extremely tall, perhaps six and half feet and his shoulders almost met the width of the door. Very well dressed in a black wool suit with matching cloak, he wore a hat and gloves and carried a leather bag a doctor might use.

“Miss Sommer? I am Desmond Glover. I believe we have an engagement.”

His speech sounded well-modulated, with a deep husky cadence as if he’d been trained to speak as a gentleman. Handsome did not seem adequate to describe his astounding countenance. Sending him away with a flea in his ear and ten pounds in his satchel no longer appealed. She stepped back.

“Please, do come in, Mr. Glover.”

She hung his hat and cloak on the hall tree. He followed her into the parlor. His scent consisted of a light fragrance of bay rum and clean linen. His presence indeed potent and thoroughly masculine, there was no denying a man dominated the room.

“Please, take a seat. Would you care for a cup of tea?”

How proper she sounded. She picked up the pot with both hands to stem the shaking. He sat across from her and with slow purpose removed his gloves.

“Very well. Milk, no sugar.”

Anne poured, added the milk, and reached out to pass him the cup rattling slightly on the saucer from her trembling grasp. As Mr. Glover took the tea, his long finger touched hers, and he stroked it intimately before moving away. Rolling, raw heat traveled up her arm from the innocent touch, or perhaps the contact all part of his game of seduction.

Anne took a sip of the beverage and stole a glance at her visitor over the top of the cup. His hair was as black as a raven’s wing, cut in layers, and styled in an exquisite manner, though longer than the current fashion. His face looked clean shaven. Better to show off the prominent cheekbones and well-formed jawline, she thought. The shade of his eyes was similar to the color of a snifter of warmed brandy, his gaze mesmerizing.

He crossed his long legs. “Perhaps we should discuss terms. I am here for two hours. The carriage driver will then return, and if I am not out within five minutes, he will depart and return in another two hours, and the cost will rise in accordance with the terms the abbess discussed with you. If you wish for us to sit and drink tea for this block of time, I can oblige you. However, I am here for more carnal pleasures. Do you wish to begin?”

Fingers pressed against his throat, feeling for a pulse.

“This one’s alive.” Someone hoisted the weight of a large chunk of wreckage from his torso. Two sets of hands slid under him. “On the count of three. One. Two. Three.”

They moved in unison, rolling him onto a stretcher.

“No,” he begged. He wasn’t alive. This couldn’t be real. Another protest gurgled from his throat and he began to convulse, unable to hold his limbs still.

“Hold him down so I can sedate him.” Hands grasped his wounded limbs. Bone cracked and shifted under their grip. He tried to arch up, but remained restrained by several soldiers. He yelled and thrashed. They grabbed both sides of his face, holding him still.

Justin screamed. The sound was so inhuman; if he hadn’t been the one who’d made it, he wouldn’t have believed it came from a man. A stick with a needle. Burning.

As the seizure eased, they released their hold. He turned his head toward the medic who’d drugged him. The man blurred in and out. Justin’s vision came back into focus as a burned picture of a woman and baby caught the breeze and tumbled across the baked earth next to where the medic kneeled. Justin swallowed and his eyes blurred with tears. Sanders hadn’t even gotten to hold his daughter.

“You’re going to be okay.”

Let me die. Please. Let me die. Pain rode his nerves like an electrical wire, sending jolts of agony to the tips of his fingers and toes. He opened his mouth, but nothing came from his throat. Boom, boom, boom. His heartbeat slowed as the sedative did its job.

“Get him on the chopper.”

Regardless the drug, every step the medics took hurt as they hauled him toward reprieve. Broken bones, burns, but nothing compared to what played through his head. He’d killed them all and survived to see his handiwork. Nothing could be worse than that.

Her green eyes shone with energy and life. She wore red lipstick, which only made her mouth more inviting. The dress hugged her perfect curves and the hemline promised fun things on the other side.

Jesus.

Jason shook his head and looked away. He’d probably caught her making plans for later and he still wanted her? His mind was so messed up.

“You don’t seem so well. What is it?” Natasha stepped closer and her spicy perfume taunted his will.

Jason stopped breathing for a moment and focused.

“I’m good.” He smiled at her, bringing his usual self to the surface. The laid back, gaming nerd and fun professor he brought out for his students.

“Come in.” Natasha beckoned him to follow her to the living room. “The party is starting.”

Somewhere along the last six or seven months, when their conversations became more frequent and more profound, Jason had lost his mind. Six or seven months ago, he would never crash a student party so he could look at one of them.

Helpless, Jason went in with her.
