AOTW- Marie Harte

Marie Harte

About the author:
I've been writing as far back as I can remember. Interest in the written word, no doubt spawned by my English teacher father, continues to this day. I'm a voracious reader, boggling everything from romance to horror to fantasy and more. I'm in love with the art of putting pen to paper...so to speak.

I majored in English from Penn State University, earning a B.A. in Liberal Arts, as well as a commission in the United States Marine Corps. Five years later, after serving as a communications officer, I left the service to focus more on family. After going through an assortment of jobs--the Marine Corps Reserve, a government contracted agency as an IT representative, a middle manager for a Fortune 500 transportation company--I stopped working to raise two new additions to the family--my youngest sons. During this period, I decided to stop dreaming and start seriously writing.

In December of 2004 my first story was published, and I haven't looked back since.  I currently have nearly fifty titles with Amber Quill, Carina Press, Ellora's Cave, Loose Id, Samhain, Total E-Bound and Whispers Publishing.

Question and Answer with Marie Harte!!

HP: You have a book coming out from Carina today (April 25th) Journeyman's Ride can you tell us a little about it?

Marie Harte: Journeyman's Ride is an erotic romance set in a western, steampunk world where Norse gods rule and there is no America, only New Britain.  Miranda is an indentured servant on a quest to rescue a princess. In the doing, she runs into Danner, a man with little regard for nobility, manners, or personal space. He's rough but ready, and he's her only protection against carnivorous felines, cannibals, and mechanical spyders as they cross the Damned Plains and the Spyder Haven. But there's more to Danner, and to Miranda, than meets the eye. Through danger and adventure, the two learn that only by trusting themselves and each other can they discover a future worth living, and a love worth fighting for.

HP: Talson's Test, the second book in your Talsons Temptations, series comes out through Ellora's Cave the 29th of this month. Can you tell us a little about it and the world you created in this series?

MH: I wrote about the Talsons years ago. Books one through three came out with a publisher who unfortunately went under. Fast forward four years. Ellora's Cave gave them a home, and the Talsons are back! The series follows four alien brothers who find love and challenges in the form of four very different women. The Otra are space traders who have psychic abilities far beyond the norm. They also have a unique mating practice, needing two men to ready one female for mating. There are enemy traders, runaway servants, kidnappings and trouble around every corner. But there's no stopping the Talsons when they set their sights on something--or someone--they want. It's a very sexy, fast paced series. It's fun and light on angst. Sexy scifi.

HP: What inspired your Circe's Recruits series and the ones slightly connected to it? What inspired this series?

MH: I'd been toying with the story for years, back when I served in the military in the 90s. I'd always wondered about the perfect warrior, and an interest in biology and genetics played a role in creating my own version of the U.S.'s first supersoldier. I wanted a shapeshifter romance that wasn't about werewolves, but genetically altered men and women who retain much of their humanity, but at their core are animalistic and different. And of course, I love the nontraditional sexuality in the books. A real family bonded together not through blood, but through sex, duty, and love.

HP: Can you tell us a little of what you have planed for this year, any writing goals maybe?

MH: I didn't think I'd have so many releases out this year, but I'm working just as much as I was last year!  I'll have all four Talson novellas revised by the end of June. The first three PowerUp! books from Loose Id will be out, and my first Carina Press release happens today. My goal is to finally finish Grady's story, a cat shapeshifter in my Cougar Falls series. And I want to get my last Circ book done, Grayson's story. I hadn't planned on his tale, but it needs to unfold.

HP: What is your favorite series/world to write?

MH: I'd have to say I'm partial to Circe's Recruits and Dawn Endeavor, my two separate yet loosely connected Circ series. They weren't necessarily easy to write, but the characters really popped for me. I really like how the love is there, regardless of gender. There are fierce ties holding the units together. Military, conspiracies, and sexual tension is all over the place.

HP:
What is the hardest part of writing to you?

MH: Getting lazy. I have to constantly get on myself to get things done. When I'm on a role, it's great. But when I start to slide, it's sometimes hard to get back on the wagon and giddy-up. I actually do better when I have more to do.

HP:
Who designs your cover art?

MH: I wish I did. Each publisher asks for my input, but then they ultimately design the covers and decide what stays. I've had a few disappointments, but I can only do so much. I will say I'm very happy with the new cover for RetroCog, a psychic suspense romance coming out in May with Loose Id that's still so new I can't share it.  It's so nice to get a cover and cheer, instead of getting the cover and holding back a shriek of what the heck is this and please God can they change it?

HP:
Is there an author who may have inspired you to write? How did you start writing?

MH: The first romance I read was a historical by Johanna Lindsey. A Gentle Feuding. I still have that book to this day. I was a precocious twelve when I first read it. I just love romance. Happy endings are all too rare in life. And I like my stories to end with smiles instead of tears. I've always been a reader and writer. Even as a kid I'd write stories for myself for fun. Though the transition to writing fulltime took a while, it's been totally worth it.

HP: On you page you mention you need perfect quiet to write, is that ever hard to find?

MH: It's not when the family is working and in school. As much as I love my kids, I really dread all the breaks. Christmas, spring break, summer. Ugh. I just like routine, and the breaks kill that. And yeah, they're noisy!

HP: What is you favorite book(s)?

MH: Tough, tough question. I have too many. A few favorites: Susan Elizabeth Phillips's Dream a Little Dream makes me smile and cry every time. I love the heroine. Robert R. McCammon's Swan Song is the best apocalyptic book I've ever read. Period. Christine Feehan's Carpathian series is a favorite too. I've reread all those books at least once. And the same with David Eddings's' The Belgariad series, which got me hooked on fantasy and romance at an early age. I re-read all the books in my personal library, but those stand out to me.

HP:
Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?

MH: If I've ever taken you away from reality, for even a little while when you've lost yourself in my words and worlds, then I've done my job. It's always been my dream to do for others what my favorite authors have done for me. And you who read my books make that possible. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart. As long as you keep reading, I'll keep writing.

Thank you Maire for being my Author of the Week for this week!! Marie has also graciously offered an ebook download of her up coming release Talson's Test which is coming out Friday to one winner, you can learn more and enter HERE.

AOTW- Rebecca Royce

Rebecca Royce

About the Author:
As a teenager, I would hide in my room to read my favorite romance novels when I was supposed to be doing my homework.  I hope, these days, that my parents think it was worth it.

I am the mother of three adorable boys and I am fortunate to be married to my best friend.  We live in northern New Jersey and try not to freeze too badly during the winter months.

I am in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and try to use all of these elements in my writing.  I've been told I'm a little bloodthirsty so I hope that when you read my work you'll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. I love to write series because I love to see characters develop over time and it always makes me happy to see my favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.

In my world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.

I'd love to hear from you!
Cheers!!

Question and Answer with Rebecca Royce!!

HP: In your Westervelt Wolves series you have mad a pretty unique world. Can you tell us a little about how you can up with the idea for the series?

Rebecca Royce: I was at the zoo with my oldest child, who is now five but at the time was under two years old, and it was Halloween time. We wondered around and the place was decorated for Halloween. I looked in the Wolf pen and I thought, what if one of the wolves is actually a shifter and not a wolf. What if he is trapped? That fast, the series was born in my mind.  It was pretty much complete from start to finish.  I know it seems crazy that it could be that fast but that is how quickly it formed in my mind.

HP: On January 3rd you released your 5th book in the Westervelt Wolves series. Do you have plans for a sixth book in this series?

RR: The Sixth book has been written. It's being edited right now. As soon as I have a release date, I'll post it on my blog. There will also be a seventh and eighth book.

HP: You put a new spin on the world of superheros in you series, Sexy Superheros. Can you tell us a little bit about our 'Capitalist Superman' Draco Powers and Wendy Warner and the world of they live in?

RR: The Sexy Superheroes live in the same world that we do--except for one large difference--there are Superheroes and they work for pay.  If you need a little help, you can call Draco's company, Powers, Inc, and he will send a Superhero to help you. Wendy Warner is his oddball assistant and Screwing the Superhero is their love story.  Banging the Superhero is the story about his brother, Ace, and Alice Styles, who is a celebrity chef on TV.

HP: You released, First Dimension (The Saga of Safe Haven Book 1), in 2009. Do you have any plans to continue this series anytime soon?

RR: At this time, I don't have plans to write the next Safe Haven. I do hope to get back to it.  But I have three active series demanding my attention and I want to be able to give the Saga the time it deserves.

HP: On your blog you have a four books as coming soon. Do you know/think any of them will be released this year?

RR: I'm hoping all of them will come out this year.

HP: In your Young Adult series The Warrior, Rachel Clancy has never been above ground, and is going on her first journey. Can you tell us a little bit about this world without giving anything away?

RR: Initiation is the first book in a Young Adult, post-apocalyptic series. Thirty years before Rachel was born the monsters--vampires and werewolves--rose up and took over the world. Humans are forced to live below ground or perish.  A small group of humans are born with the genes that allow them to fight the monsters and win. They are called The Warriors and they are humanities best chance at survival.  Rachel is a Warrior. Initiation begins on her sixteenth birthday--the day she will have to go above ground for the first time and fight.  She quickly discovers that not everything is as she'd been taught it would be.

HP: Your published books start in 2009, are these the first books you wrote or just the first ones you had published?

RR: I started writing in 2006 but 2009 was when I got published.  I wrote several books that were so terrible no one will ever see them. LOL

HP: Is there and author who may have inspired you to write? How did you start writing?

RR: Christine Feehan. I read all of her books and then I was addicted to Paranormal Romance.  I've always written but when I was pregnant with my second son, my husband encouraged me to actually do it.  I'm so grateful he did!

HP: What is you favorite book(s)?

RR: Nalini Singh writes the Psy/Changeling series and it is my absolute favorite.  I also love Lora Leigh's Breed series.

HP: Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?

RR: I am so grateful for the chance to do what I love and every reader who checks out my books makes that possible for me. I am enormously grateful for all of my readers and nothing makes me happier than to hear from my readers so please keep e-mailing me.  The letters really make my day!!

I want to thank you again for being here on my blog Rebecca, it is a pleasure featuring you for this week!!

AOTW- Margo Maguire

Margo Maguire
About the Author:
Throughout her years of nursing practice, Margo Maguire started thousands of intravenous lines and drew enough blood to keep the hungriest vampire satisfied. She wrote a sufficiant number of nurse's notes to carpet an entire football field, and read so many EKGs her eyes came close to being permanently crossed. As a nice, sane break from the drama and fast pace of the intensive care units, Margo went back to college to study history, and fell in love. Writing about the historical characters she encountered in her classes was a good way to unwind from a crazy day in the unit. She soon started making up her own fictional characters and putting them into historical settings.
Since leaving nursing, Margo has published seventeen historical romance novels. Her books have been published in twelve different languages, and even in Japan as manga-animated books.
She is the mother of three grown children and lives with her scientist husband in southern Michigan.
Margo participates in RWA's yearly Literacy Signing, and does local book signings with every new release. She has given talks on writing and research techniques, and is a featured author at The Sisterhood of the Jaunty Quills, a blog for romance authors. She is a regular contributor to the Avon Romance forums and sends out bulletins with Romance Designs and Eye on Romance.

Question and Answer with Margo Maguire!!
Thank you for inviting me to FullMoonBites, Holly! It's a pleasure to be here.

HP: Can you tell us a little about you book 'The Bride Hunt'? From the description Lady Isabel Louvet and the knight, Anvrai d'Arques, sound like an intriguing pair.

Margo: The Bride Hunt was my first release from Avon Books, one of two that are set during the time of William the conqueror. The year is 1072, when the Saxons were getting shoved around pretty badly by the newcomers - the Normans. The Bride Hunt is a Beauty and the Beast story, with Anvrai d'Arques - a battle-scarred knight - going to the rescue of Isabel, who is stolen from her home (along with her handsome would-be fiance, Roger) by marauding Scots. Anvrai gets Isabel and Roger out of several tight spots and Isabel eventually realizes who the Real Man is, in spite of his scars...

HP: Can you tell us how you came up with the idea in 'Temptation of the Warrior' to send Merrick Mac Lochlainn forward in time? What was this writing/planing process for this book like?

Margo: I'm not sure what made me think of it - it's sort of a "Harry Potter Meets the Lord of the Rings" thing. The two books in this series - A Warrior's Taking and Temptation of the Warrior - are about two sorcer-warrior brothers. Their father - the chieftain of the clan - is killed by an evil sorceress. Brogan (in the first book) and Merrick (in the second) have to zing out into space and time to find two powerful stones - hidden eons before - that will help them defeat the sorceress. When they each arrive to search during the 19th century, they connect with women who help them on their quest.

I had to come up with a world that fit these two heros. My first few ideas for them had to do with early Celtic times and Celtic lore, so that's why I made them the MacLochlainns. Then I thought it would be cool if their race - the sorcerer-warriors - were the ones who had taught the ancient Druids everything they knew. So my characters' race became the Druzai - the precursors to Druids. Except that the Druzai perform real magic. And there are actual mystical creatures they have to deal with. My vision was that their race lives in an enchanted realm that is hidden to ordinary humans.

HP: 'The Bride of Windemere', published in 1999 is your earliest book published. Is this the first book you wrote or just the first you had published?

Margo: The Bride of Windermere was the first book I ever wrote, which I did during the early morning hours after work - I was a critical care nurse and didn't get home until after midnight every night. I started writing in order to unwind after a night of tension in the unit. But my writing didn't just come out of the blue. My mom was an English teacher, and I was always an avid reader, so I had plenty of experience (and instinct) on what made a book readable. But it was a surprise that my first submission sold so quickly. I didn't have an agent, and I had minimal (well, actually zero) knowledge of the publishing industry.

HP: Your first three books 'The Bride of Windemere', 'Dryden's Bride' and 'Celtic Bride' are all stand alone novels. Was this your first idea for the three books, or did it start out to be a series?

Margo: I had no idea what I was doing - in terms of a writing career - when I first started writing. I'd wanted to write a western for my second book, even though my editor really wanted me to write another Medieval. She liked my Medieval "voice" and wanted me to take the most horribly wounded knight from The Bride of Windermere, and give him his own book. I did that, and it turned into Dryden's Bride. When I started my third book, Celtic Bride, I'd already introduced that hero in Dryden's Bride and come up with a totally different kind of heroine.

Well, maybe not totally different. My second heroine was Welsh, the fictional sister of Owen Tudor (the original Tudor), and my third was an Irish princess. I truly loved writing about the male-female dynamic of Medieval times. It was so different to our modern sensibilities, and yet - some things never change, lol!

HP: You just released 'Seducing the Governess' March of this year. And are said to be releasing the second, 'Brazen', November this year. Can you tell us a little about the two sisters who are the Heroines of the two books?

Margo: I've switched to Regency-era books, but they're still very sensual and have lots of adventure in each. Seducing the Governess is my eighth book for Avon (my eighteenth altogether) and it started as an idea for a series with two sisters who were abandoned by their duke grandfather when they were toddlers. The backstory is that he disowned their mother when she married against his wishes. Now that his son and heir is dead, he is all alone. He wants to reconnect with his granddaughters, so he hires Captain Gavin Briggs to scour England in search of them - and promises Briggs a huge reward to bring them back to him.

In writing the two stories, I wanted the two sisters to have been brought up separately, and in completely different circumstances. The first one - Mercy Franklin in Seducing the Governess - was raised by a strict vicar and his wife. When her parents die, she learns she is not really their daughter, but she also finds herself in need of employment. She becomes governess to the niece of the new Earl of Ashby, a wounded veteran of Waterloo. The estate is a rundown mess and the earl needs to marry money in order to make a go of it, so falling for Mercy is not an option.

The second book is Brazen and will be out at the end of November. This sister is Christina, who was brought up by the Earl of Sunderland and his wife. She is now the widow of a viscount, and is being blackmailed by some nasty character. When Captain Briggs finds her, she blackmails him into helping her find and deal with her blackmailer before she'll go to her supposed grandfather so that he can collect his reward. It's a race to get to London on time and ... let's just say it's a pretty interesting trip for Christina and Captain Briggs.

Question and Answer with Jennifer/Ashley/Allyson:

Q: Your new release coming up as Allyson James, Shadow Walker in June, can you tell us a little about it?

A: Shadow Walker is the third book in the Stormwalker series. Janet Begay, the heroine, is a Stormwalker, which means she can tap into any nearby storm and channel its power into her magic (thunderstorms, dust storms, blizzards). She's Navajo, born to a Navajo father and an evil goddess mother. Janet solves supernatural crimes using her abilities to read auras of people and places, but her crime solving leads to dangerous adventures.

Her boyfriend, Mick, a sexy shape shifter who can weild fire, helps her out. They're joined by Coyote, a few dragon friends, and a mouthy drag-queen magic mirror.

In Shadow Walker, winter storms come to northern Arizona, a new menace stalks Janet and Mick, and Janet faces losing Mick forever.

Q: Can you tell us some about your Shifters Unbound series as Jennifer Ashley? Where did you come up with the idea for the series?

A: Shifters Unbound (#1 Pride Mates and #2 Primal Bonds thus far) is a series about shapeshifters (wildcat, wolf, bear) that reveal themselves to the human world, only to be rounded up and shunted into "Shiftertowns." They are forced to wear Collars that control any violence with shocks, and they're not allowed to work certain jobs, own new cars and new technology, etc. The Shifters, knowing how powerful they really are, submit to captivity because they were dying out in the wild. Now they have time to settle down, have children, and strengthen themsevles.

I came up with the idea by seeing a group of construction workers on the side of the road one day. They were talking and laughing, and were cute too. :-) I started making up stories about them--what if they were brothers and a father, living and working together, several generations of men in one house. I was trying to come up with a paranormal romance idea, so I starting thinking "what if?" What if they were shapeshifters? What if they were trying to make a living in the world, just everyday guys, but they had to deal with being shapeshifters in a world that didn't understand them. The Morrissey family was born, and the first book wrote itself.

Book One is about Liam, the oldest son; Book 2 about Sean, his brother. In book 3, I move to another family of Shifters and give you a look at their world, though the Morrisseys will be involved and be back.

Q: Can you tell us some about your series, Captain Lacey Regency Mystery, as Ashley Gardner? Is there going to be any new books in this series or was the sixth book the last? Do you have any plans to write a new series as Ashley Gardner?

A: The Captain Lacey mysteries I started a while back at Berkley. They went out of print, and now I'm republishing them on Kindle and Nook. After I repub the first six books, I'll be writing a seventh (and more). Also I found a novella I wrote and never submitted ("The Necklace Affair"), which I will revise and edit and publish after book 4.

The mysteries are set in Regency England and star Captain Gabriel Lacey, a cavalry officer wounded in the Napoleonic Wars. Though he's a gentleman, his father pretty much lost the family money, leaving Gabriel penniless. He lives in rooms near Covent Garden and becomes intrigued by crimes that happen in and around London. He reconnects with people he knew in the army (including his old commander, with whom he's had a falling out), and makes new friends (Grenville, the wealthy dandy everyone wants to imitate).

If you like brooding heroes who are strong and don't take crap from anyone, you'll like Captain Lacey.

Q: Out of all you series, under all three names, which do you love writing the most?

A: Hard to say! I also have another series, historicals about the Mackenzie family--four Scotsmen who are mad, bad, and dangerous to know.

I love aspects of all of them. The sexy Shifters, the dangerous Highlanders, Janet and her kick-butt magic (and Mick is a hunk). I think my favorite character is Captain Lacey, who is direct, honorable, and much smarter than I am. I'm never quite sure what Lacey will do.

Thanks so much for featuring me!
